Five Chinese delegations compromising of Potential Investor across the People’s Republic of China have already arrived in PNG in the final week of August 2025.
The Secretary for the Department of International Trade and Investment, Mrs. Jacinta Warakai-Manua, confirmed this report while receiving the first delegation on Thursday 28th August, with a warm reception of cultural performances from the Motu Loita an Tufi Culture groups, at the Jackson International Airport Terminal’s Ceremonial Park.
Meanwhile, the delegation was led by the PNG Ambassador to China, His Excellency (H.E.) Dr. Thaddeus Kambanei.
“The delegation consists of representatives from 17 companies across various sectors of PNG’s economy including agriculture, hospitality, capital market, real estate and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).”
“Whilst here, they plan to have bilateral discussions with key Government agencies including commodity boards and they will also be travelling to Lae over the weekend because that is one place they wish to visit.”
“They want to do as much as they possibly can in the next couple of days.”
Mrs. Warakai-Manua highlighted the strong and evolving 50-year relationship between China and Papua New Guinea, emphasizing China’s role as PNG’s major trading partner and the potential for increased Chinese investment.
She expressed optimism that the presence of the Chinese business delegation at the PNG SEZ Summit would further deepen and cement trade and investment ties between the two nations.
In addition, Mrs. Manua further expressed her gratitude to H.E. Dr. Kambanei, for promoting PNG and for his working relations with the Chinese business community which had resulted in such a large business delegation visiting the country to explore investment opportunities.
Dr. Kambenei in response said that this is only the beginning of the best that is yet to come as long as he is the Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.
Moreover, 450 international delegations including guest speakers from other countries such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates are expected to attend the 2nd PNG SEZ Summit at the Stanely Hotel.
