Schools in the Milne Bay province have decided to use shift class teaching to maintain COVID-19 protocols with the resumption of term 2 this week.
“We have notified students and parents of the schedule for the shift classes.”
“The first lot of students come in the morning and have their classes from 8am to 11:30am then they go home and the next lot of students come for classes at 11:30am to 2:30pm and we switch every two weeks”
“Entry to the school will be from the front gate and students will leave the school from the back gate.”
That’s from the Head Teacher of Goilanai Primary School, Mr Eugene Awilo.
Mr Awilo added that as much as it is the schools responsibility to keep students safe in school, parents must also do their part and make sure that their children have atleast 3 face masks and they must also have face towels to bring to school.
Parents have also been advised to make sure that their children bring in lunch from home as there will not be any cooked food or food items sold at the school.
He further added that teachers must also follow strict hygiene measures when in school.
Meanwhile, Cameron Secondary School students also resumed today.
However only for the grade 10s, 11s and 12s.
Today is only for the students to set up their classrooms.
The Grade 11s will begin their end of Term exams starting Tuesday and continue to Wednesday.
The other grades will come in for their assemblies at different times on Tuesday to pick up their schedules for the shift classes to begin on Wednesday.
Furthermore some parents have expressed concerns about the resumption of the school when COVID-19 cases are still increasing daily.
Some are making a call to the Pandemic Controller to consider closing schools and letting children to do their school work from home.
Social distancing is a big issue that parents worry about as most schools are overcrowded.
