Member (MP) for Hiri-Koiari Keith Iduhu has reopened the Boera Village Aid-Post in the Central province to provide primary health care to the village after it was closed due to vandalism.
On Wednesday 21st May 2025, the Aid Post, which was refurbished, opened its door to provide basic health services to the people of Boera village and also the surrounding communities.
“The re-opening is a special day for Boera village because the village will now receive a health facility to serve the long outstanding issue of receiving primary health care.
Opening the facility is one thing but looking after it is a joint community effort. I ask the community to look after this facility as you will benefit from it.
The reason why there was a delay in opening this facility was because of local vandalism.
This facility is your building, and we are handing it over to you to take care of it.
We will provide support from the background, but this health facility rightfully belongs to the Central Provincial Health Authority (CPHA) in the primary health care manifesto, which means you are now responsible for providing Boera a health worker and to consistently and continuously ensuring we have a qualified health worker who can administer primary health care to our people.
We will also require your support to have sufficient medication in the facility on approved basis,” Mr. Iduhu said.
He told the CPHA that after the re-opening, the district will continue to work with them to ensure that primary health care is provided to his people and if CPHA need any assistance, the district will try their best to help and support them in any way they can, as that is their role on primary health care agenda.
“Our next target is to ensure that we have a level 4 hospital, and I believe that we can achieve with corporation and commit from every stakeholder involved.
I want the CPHA to take ownership of this health facility and with the joint effort, the next thing is to get an ambulance on standby to provide support,” Mr. Iduhu said.
A representative from the Central Provincial Health Authority stated that they will take care of the operation of the health facility and going forward patients will no longer pay any fees to receive primary health care at the Aid Post.
He also thanked the MP for Hiri-Koiari and his team for their support in reopening the health facility.
