Following advice from the National Command Centre and Health Authorities, it has been concurred
that the suspension of ALL AFFILIATED SPORTING COMPETITIONS COUNTRYWIDE will be extended to the
3rd of May 2021.
The increased infections and deaths countrywide have necessitated this course of action.
The PNGSF and affiliates are fully committed to the safety and well-being of not only the sporting
community but the general population at large. It is our duty to ensure that for the greater good of
the community and protection of the vulnerable and high-risk population, that this necessary decision
be made.
Thus, ALL PNGSF sporting venues nationwide will also remain closed to the public till 3rd of May. This
has come at a high cost with many of our staff manning our stadiums and events organizing having
to be laid off. As such this decision was not made lightly, but it is just.
In the interim, negotiations are currently ongoing to gain special exemption for “TRAINING ONLY” for
the following category of athletes:
1. PNG Representative and Olympic Athletes.
2. PNGNRL Franchises
3. PNGNSL Franchises
This is to ensure that these athletes maintain their fitness for their domestic semi-professional and
international representations. There should be a consensus with the Controller on this, in the next few
days.
It is a time of uncertainty and our hearts go out to those that have lost their loved ones to this
Pandemic. We pray for the strength and gracious spirit of the Lord to be with the individuals and
families affected and guiding hands upon our frontline health workers and support staff that are
fighting everyday to save our people.
God Bless PNG and God bless each and everyone of you.
