It was a scene of chaos this morning at the Embogo Secondary School in the Northern province when some students turned and attacked their fellow students and teachers.
The secondary school in Oro Bay was the center of a major school fight involving more than 100 students, but thanks to the swift police action, it prevented this incident from further escalating.
Teachers and school ancillary staff were also targeted by key student instigators with wire catapults and knife wielding angry mods of students, the melee lasted 30 minutes which saw both parents and staff escaping the school grounds in fear of their lives.
After the incident was quelled, Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Ewai Segi in his address made it clear that there will be serious repercussion on those identified through police investigations including being referred for further prosecution.
Embogo Secondary school has over the years become the centre of numerous unresolved school and student instigated violence.
Staff of the school also expressed frustration as their families’ lives are constantly under threat from students especially from neighboring communities
Provincial Education Advisor Mr. Maino Vegoli said, “I will come straight to your house, and have you arrested and slap the full arm of the law on any locals who persist to incite violence at the school.”
He also expressed grave disappointment at the manner in which students constantly use violent to resolve very petty issues.
As such Vegoli has given police full power to process and prosecute all key instigators involved in the fight this morning.
Northern Governor Gary Juffa also praised the prompt response by police and education divisional staff to quell the situation.
“I stand with my provincial education advisor that Oro will not tolerate any student who think they are above the school rules and the Law.
Education is key to your development and if you see fit to play around with this privilege then there is no room for your stupidity,” said Juffa.
