The President of the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC), Mrs. Emma Waiwai, expressed her enthusiasm and gratitude at the official launching of the Trukai Fun Run T-Shirts last night in Port Moresby city, acknowledging the Fun Run’s legacy of unity and national pride.
According to Ms. Waiwai, for over 25 years, the Trukai Fun Run has been more than just a sporting event—it has been a symbol of togetherness and a critical fundraiser for Team PNG’s participation in international competitions, including the Pacific Games, Pacific Mini Games, and the prestigious Olympic Games. This year’s event is even more special, as it aligns with Papua New Guinea’s 50th anniversary as a nation, reinforcing the theme “Running Through History.”
Mrs. Waiwai commended Trukai Industries Limited for its steadfast support since 2000, helping athletes reach their full potential on the international stage.
“Trukai has played an invaluable role in ensuring that our athletes have the resources to compete at the highest levels,” she stated.
The 2025 Trukai Fun Run will provide crucial funding for Team PNG’s journey to the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, set for June 29 to July 9. Papua New Guinea dominated the last Mini Games in the Northern Mariana Islands, topping the medal tally with an impressive 80 medals, and the team is determined to defend its title.
Beyond sports, the Fun Run extends its impact to education. Through the auction of official Fun Run T-shirts, proceeds will benefit schools and institutions across the country, funding better learning facilities and growth opportunities for students.
“Every T-shirt tells a story of support, kindness, and hope,” Mrs. Waiwai emphasized.
This year’s Fun Run is scheduled for Sunday, June 8, 2025, bringing together communities across Papua New Guinea in a nationwide celebration of sports, unity, and national pride. As Team PNG prepares to depart for Palau on June 26, Mrs. Waiwai called on all Papua New Guineans to rally behind their athletes and support the cause.
Furthermore, Mrs. Waiwai acknowledged the invaluable contributions of key partners, including Trukai Industries Limited, ExxonMobil PNG Limited, SP Brewery Limited, IBS University, PNG Sports Foundation, Vodafone PNG, and several others, for their unwavering commitment to sports development in the country.
Mrs. Waiwai reiterated that the Trukai Fun Run is more than an event—it is a movement of unity and hope, bringing Papua New Guinea together to support athletes, youths, and national aspirations.
“Let’s make this year’s Fun Run the best yet!” she urged.
