The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) pays tribute to one of Team PNG’s first sports shooter Olympian, Trevan Clough, who passed away on Friday, 28th February 2025.
The former shooter Mr. Clough competed in the Olympics Trap Shooting in the 1976 held in Montreal, he finished a tie for 35th place, and in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, he secured the 66th position.
While PNG made its debut in the 1976 Olympics, Mr. Clough was one out from the 6 athletes who were the first Team PNG Olympians. His teammates, the first Olympians included, John Dom and Takale Tuna in Track and Field, Zoffa Aruafu and Tumat Sogolik in Boxing, and William Kaputin and himself in Trap Shooting.
Mr. Clough was also active in promoting the Olympic movement in Papua New Guinea, beyond his athletic achievements. Mr. Clough played a key role in establishing the Papua New Guinea Olympian Association (PNGOA) in 2019, aiming to connect former Olympians and promote Olympic values in PNG.
On behalf of the sporting fraternity, the PNG Olympic Committee extended its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Trevan Clough, expressing gratitude for his contributions to PNG sports and honouring his memory as a champion. May he rest in eternal peace.
