Eastern Highlands Province (EHP) Governor Simon Sia has assured the families of two slain policemen that justice will be pursued following their brutal murder in Southern Highlands Province (SHP).
Governor Sia made this announcement in a recent statement.
According to the statement, Governor Sia confirms receiving the petition from relatives during the roadblock.
Sia pledged to deliver it to the relevant authorities.
“In the presence of the Provincial Administrator, Mr. Allen Los, and the Security forces on the ground, I received the petition on behalf of the National and Southern Highlands Provincial Government.”
“The petition will be delivered to the relevant authorities mentioned as soon as possible,” he stated.
He further assured the families that their demands for justice will not be ignored.
“I want to give full assurance to the deceased families and relatives that the petition I received will reach the Governor for Southern Highlands Province, Member for Mendi, Police Minister and his Commissioner, and the Prime Minister, and we’ll ensure the response is given within the time frame of the petition.”
Furthermore, Governor Sia concluded pressing for patience and lawful action, urging the families and the public to avoid retaliation.
“We have to look at the major repercussions that our conduct now can have on wider Eastern Highlanders living in other parts of Papua New Guinea and work together to find justice desired by the family and tribesmen in an amicable manner.”
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that justice is served while maintaining peace and order in the province.
