The State of Emergency (SOE) Controller, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) Highlands Western End, Mr. Joseph Tondop, has expressed deep gratitude for the key figures and organizations that facilitated the Emergency Peace Agreement (EPA) in the Porgera-Paiela District.
The SOE Controller stated this during the Emergency Peace agreement ceremony on January 31st January 2025, at Porgera Station.
A/ACP Tondop commended the collaborative efforts of Enga Provincial Governor Sir Peter Ipatas, law enforcement units, the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF), and community leaders who played crucial roles in mediating peace. He highlighted the relentless dedication of police commanders, business leaders such as Chamber of Commerce President Nickson Pakea, and faith-based organizations, including the SDA Church Porgera and the United Church Port Moresby.
Furthermore, Tondop urged leaders to honor their commitments, warning of strict legal consequences for any breaches to the EPA.
The landmark signing brought together the Pianda, Sakare Mamai, Eno, Aiyala, and Nomali clans, officially ending months of conflict that claimed over 33 lives and disrupted essential services.
With this historic milestone, A/ACP Tondop remains optimistic that Porgera will experience renewed stability, economic growth, and the restoration of essential services for its people.
