The Baruni Development secured a narrow 14-12 victory in KCK Rigo Rice Cup Leg-2 Round on Saturday 18th January 2025 at the Bava Park, Port Moresby.
The Baruni Development triumphed over Manu Mix Birdies in a thrilling 70-minute matchup.
Both teams fought hard in a match filled with penalties, high stakes, and moments of controversy.
The first half was closely contested and despite a penalty in the first half, the Baruni Development took an early lead in the first half through Karava Mafu’s first try, earning four points. Manu Mix Birdies managed to stay in the game thanks to Aua Sede’s precision scoring a try to respond, leveling the scores at 4-4 despite both teams causing penalties into halftime.
The second half brought more action and intensity as both teams traded out penalties.
Manu Mix Birdies rallied with tries from Auba Daera and Karai Vagi, keeping the pressure on their opponents. However, Baruni Development held their ground with two tries by Karava Mafu and Charles Rex following a successful conversion by Karava Mafu, adding 2 crucial points to take the lead into full time.
14-12 into fulltime allowed the Baruni Development to take the win in Round 2 of Leg-2 of the KCK Rigo Rice Cup 2024-2025.
The match was not without its challenges, as three players were sinbinned for violations and sportsmanship conduct.
Despite this, Baruni Development’s resilience and precision earned them the hard-fought win, solidifying their position as strong contenders in the tournament as they focus on round 3 next week.
