Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Western End, Joseph Tondop has issued 24 hours Ultimatum yesterday for cop killers in Mendi to surrender today, Friday 17th January 2025.
ACP Tondop told PNG HAUSBUNG that these cop killers along the Mountain Fire Highway in Upper Mendi Southern Highlands Province (SHP) must surrender today at 6pm or there will be consequences for their heinous actions on Tuesday 14th January 2025.
ACP Tondop has condemned the fatal shooting of the Police Constable which took place along the Mountain Fire highway.
Tondop expressed deep frustration over the incident, describing it as an act of disrespect toward law enforcement officers who were simply performing their duties.
“This was an unprovoked and cowardly attack on officers returning from duty. Such acts against the custodians of the law are intolerable,” he stated.
The deceased officer while on duty was traveling with colleagues from Tari to Wabag in Mobile Squad 11 and was ambushed on the Mountain Fire highway at around 11:30-12pm.
The ambush claimed the life of the officer instantly, while two other officers of the vehicle sustained serious injuries when their vehicle was seized from the attack.
The two injured officers were rushed to the hospital, with recommendations for their transfer to Port Moresby for specialized care.
ACP Tondop has issued the 24-hour ultimatum to the leaders and residents of Timipa village to surrender the suspects responsible for the attack.
“I demand the immediate surrender of those involved. This community must cooperate to ensure justice is served,” he declared.
Describing the perpetrators as “domestic terrorists,” ACP Tondop called for unity among citizens to uphold the rule of law, emphasizing the importance of protecting law enforcement personnel from such heinous acts.
