National Capital District (NCD) Metropolitan Superintendent Silva Sika expressed gratitude to the NCD Wardens for the tremendous efforts in apprehending petty criminals and street vendors in Port Moresby.
Sika has commended the City Warden towards the tireless efforts in maintaining Law and Order within their 3 weeks of deployment following several arrests within the festive period of 2024.
Sika Emphasized the daily arrests as good progress that sends a statement that police will proceed to arrest more when they are caught. He stressed the need for the city to be clean and safe.
Furthermore, Sika thanked the wardens working closely with police in managing bus stops accordingly to their assigned posts. He highlighted the contribution to order around bus stops following the warden’s presence alongside police.
Sika emphasized this following 7 street vendors arrested and charged and awaiting scheduled court appearance to answer for their charges. He said these suspects will be also allowed on police bail and can bail if they have the amount of money to bail.
Sika added that with the arrest of these vendors, it now shows the public that police will continue their mandated role in the city. He also added that with the festive season operation launched last week, police officers are now out in numbers to polish up the city.
He also called on for public cooperation and to respect each other.
