Two murder suspects involved in two separate killings over the weekend in Central province have voluntarily surrender to the police, thanks to the strong community engagement led by the Central Police Commander and local leaders.
Central Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Chief Inspector Joseph Salle confirmed the arrests, emphasizing the critical role of public cooperation in resolving these two cases.
The first suspect, a man from Tapini in the Goilala district, turned himself in after allegedly killing his wife on Saturday at Martin River in Kairuku district. He surrendered at Goldie Junction in the presence of village leaders and police officers.
PPC Salle said the suspect is now in custody at the Fifteen Mile Police Station and is being questioned.
The second incident occurred on Sunday night, with the suspect fleeting the scene after the murder was reported to the police. Responding officers urged the suspect to surrender during their investigation.
By Monday morning, the suspect who is also from Goilala district, communicated his intention to turn himself in through the village leaders at Laloki. He surrendered without resistance in the presence of the police and local leaders and is now detained at Fifteen Mile Police Station.
Chief Inspector Salle commended the police officers, community leaders and the members of the public who facilitated the two suspects’ peaceful surrender.
“This is a step forward in our fight against crime,” he said.
The two suspects are expected to face charges accordingly as investigations continue.
