The PNG Air National Athletics Championships (ANAC) wrapped up successfully on Saturday December 7, 2024, at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby city.
Athletics PNG President, Mr. Tony Green commended the glorious performance from East and West New Britain, Morobe, NSI, the National Capital District, alongside smaller teams from New Ireland, Simbu, and Manus. Clubs like Kokofa, Axel, and NEST, and schools such as Port Moresby International School added to the competitive spirit.

The Under-18 Division witnessed an intensely competitive atmosphere, especially among the girls in long-distance and sprint events. These spirited young ladies delivered inspiring endurance performances, while engaged in a thrilling head-to-head race, reflecting the fierce determination and emerging talent that promises a bright future for PNG athletics.
Green emphasized his surprise to see such spirit and endurance from the athletes through committed training, support and guidance from team coaches, and parents and guardians.
Furthermore Mr. Green highlighted the existential life challenges the youths face and urges parents and guardians to express positive support in their children or sibling’s journey to enable them to prioritize what they want, especially in Athletics.
Meanwhile, Mr, Green mentioned that a lot of raw talent were seen during the event and hopes to see more in the future.
Meantime, despite the disrupting stormy weather experienced over the 3 days of the event and the absence of the few athletes, 280 dedicated athletes from across Papua New Guinea still displayed remarkable resilience and talent.
The championship underscored the depth of talent in PNG athletics, providing a vital platform for emerging athletes and affirming the nation’s sporting future.
