At the recent gun surrender ceremony in Warangoi in the Sinivit District of East New Britain’s Pomio District led by Pomio MP and Health Minister Elias Kapavore, several community members voiced concerns about land availability, especially regarding Nukumal Plantation, which has seen a need for clearer land ownership and titles for residents.
Acting Sinivit LLG Manager Pennie Maroro Junior addressed these concerns, revealing that the Provincial Lands Division is expected to visit and address land issues across key wards, including Laup, Sunam, and Rieit-Dadul.
“All the plantations are privately owned, but most have been left idle for years,” he explained, adding, “So, we want to acquire the Laup Plantation first, which is currently owned by the board of directors of the Tolai Warwagira show.”
A senior clergy member in Sinivit, Pastor Gershon Passingan, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of government support for church-oriented community programs.
He encouraged the government to focus on long-term solutions by providing resources to strengthen community bonds and support local development.
