Following the recent shooting along the Lagaip-Surinki highway that led to 6 deaths in a PMV bus last month, Member for Lagaip district in Enga province, Aimos Akem travelled to Surinki on Thursday 30th October 2024, to address the people affected.
Mr Akem’s visit to Surinki was to address both clans involved, Moen and the Sakar clan.
Akem said 6 people were confirmed dead in that shooting, others were dragged out of the PMV and into the nearby villages along the highway and killed.
Those who were dragged out and killed, have bodies yet to be recovered.
Mr Aken added that he would provide vehicles to help search for missing dead bodies.
“I will help provide some fuel and cars to recover those bodies that are still out there, however, the fight ends now.”
“If you want to fight again, go and fight elsewhere and not in Surinki or in another districts in Enga!”
Akem clarified to the people of Surinki that the on-going violence has scattered to more than one area in the province.
Meanwhile, in a separate gathering, the Moen tribe came forward and surrendered in front of the law enforcement team handing over a total of eight 8 people for custody.
Whilst sending them over, the leaders of Moen strongly insisted that the Sakar and Mulapin councilors and those who have started the fight must also surrender as soon as possible.
With so many law-and-order issues in Enga province, not one tribe has showed an act of bravery to come forward and do a surrender exercise.
