West New Britain (WNB) teachers are leading the way in Papua New Guinea (PNG) by becoming the first in the nation to be registered online through the Teachers’ Information Management System (TIMS).
This announcement was made by Teaching Service Commission (TSC) head, Samson Wangihomie, during a recent visit to Hoskins Secondary School.
He highlighted the significance of this initiative in ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of teachers.
The TIMS, launched in 2021, is an electronic online database designed by the TSC to streamline the management of teachers’ data.
It aims to improve decision-making, eliminate fraudulent entries, and ensure the timely removal of ghost teachers from the payroll.
Wangihomie emphasized that the system’s implementation is long overdue and will contribute to better management of the education sector across PNG.
With WNB being the first to have its teachers registered, this marks a crucial step in modernizing the nation’s education administration.
The TSC will use TIMS as a centralized information hub for all teachers employed in PNG, ensuring the smooth functioning of the education system.
The process will be continuously updated annually, allowing the database to evolve and improve.
Wangihomie further urged teachers nationwide to embrace this change, recognizing the importance of maintaining such detailed records to support the TSC in its role as the state agency responsible for employing teachers across the country.
This development is expected to enhance the overall efficiency and accountability of PNG’s teaching workforce.
