On Friday, August 16th, Prime Minister James Marape re-opened the Radiotherapy Treatment Service at ANGAU Memorial Hospital in Lae, Morobe Province.
This facility, part of the National Cancer Services Unit, cost K20 million and took four years to build, starting in 2019, and is equipped with the latest technology and a skilled team of healthcare professionals.
“The re-opening of the Radiotherapy Treatment Service signifies a big step forward in the provision of advanced healthcare services to the people of Papua New Guinea, particularly those battling cancer,” said Prime Minister Marape.
He added, “I want our ordinary people who have been diagnosed with cancer and heart diseases to be able to be treated here in PNG instead of struggling to get medical treatment overseas.”
Prime Minister Marape noted that this facility brings hope and access to much-needed treatment for patients in the region. He thanked the Morobe Provincial Health Authority, the Australian Government, and Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited for their support.
He assured that the government remains committed to ensuring quality healthcare services for all citizens, especially in the fight against cancer.
