St Anthony’s Vunavavar Primary school in NCR of Gazelle district in East New Britain has received funding support of K50, 000 from the East New Britain Provincial Government (ENBPG) which will be used for school infrastructure upgrading and renovations.
This was announced by ENB Governor Michael Marum recently during the primary school opening of a new two in one classroom.
Governor Marum thanked Chinese Jiangsu International (CJI), a Chinese business operating in Kokopo for core funding the classroom through their partnership with the education division and provincial government.
He said CJI came forward to support the projects in two schools; Vunavavar and Mope in Kokopo district which is a big support to the province and the children.
“I am here to witness what has been done and what are some of the other things that the school needs so that we can all work together to improve them so that our children will have better classrooms and facilities to learn.”
He added that the school is now privileged to have a new classroom and has urged the students and teachers to take ownership of the facility and look after it while the government will also look to other areas to support not only in Vunavavar but other schools as well in the province.
Meanwhile, Board Chairman, Gerard Awei, said the opening of the new classroom is a historical event at Vunavavar primary school because this is the first building built again after eighty years.
According to Awei, the school serves three wards and it is a great joy for the wards and parents to see a new infrastructural project being built like this new building. He added that there are lot of facilities that need change.
CJI donated K30, 000 towards the building and the Catholic Archdiocese of Rabaul for the K16, 000 worth of building materials towards the classroom.
