In celebrating a ten year long partnership with donors and stakeholders in the strive to empowering women economically in women dominated spaces like markets, UN WOMEN Country Representative, Themba Kalua has given a word of appreciation to those who stood side by side in working towards empowering more women.
Addressing all stakeholders at the Gala Dinner event, on the second day of the inaugural National Markets Convention at the APEC House, Kalua said he was amazed by how much they have achieved through their partnerships.
“I would like to acknowledge our donors and development partners who have funded our work for so many years, in particular partners from Australia.”
“I would also like to recognize our friends from Japan, the EU and New Zealand.”
Apart from these organizations, Kalua gave a huge shout out to those in the private sector who actively supported their programs, such as the Women’s Microbank and Telikom PNG.
He further added that for over 10 years UN WOMEN have supported women in the informal economy level, especially markets, starting in NCD with the construction of the Gordon’s Market supported and led by NCD Governor Powes Parkop.
