Exxon Mobil PNG Managing Director, Peter Larden has voiced great excitement in partnering with Digicel PNG & the PNG National Rugby League as the co-sponsors of the country’s semi-professional rugby league competition, stating that they are incredible excited to be the new co-naming sponsor for the competition.
With the inclusion of EMPNG as co-naming sponsor, what was formerly known as the Digicel cup will now be called the Digicel Exxon Mobil Cup.
Larden said that EMPNG knows how important rugby league is to PNG, it instils pride and certainly ensures that it helps to develop the youth in a positive way.
“For a decade as many of you know we’ve sponsored the PNG LNG Kumuls and of course the hunters as well and we’ve seen incredible benefits in those programs as well. And that’s why we’ve been looking for an opportunity to expand our presence and the Digicel-ExxonMobil Cup was the logical expansion.”
Thanks to EMPNG, the country can look forward to the expansion of training facilities and grassroots programs focusing on the Premier League and also all the way down to the youth.
Larden reiterated that since EMPNG is a high performing team, they want to support high performance teams locally.
Larden said they are also looking forward to working with the players, recounting great experiences with stars such as Justin Olam.
He also stressed that talent is not the only thing needed to succeed, it’s hard work as well. He said talent and hard work are key components to success.
“He (Justin Olam) will tell you that talent gets you so far but hard work is what makes the difference.”
He further added that hard work is a value that they hold dear at EMPNG and they looking forward to strengthening and promoting the competition.
