The attempts made by police in Madang to apprehend the members of the notorious Hetwara Gang have been futile due to the tough terrain of the Nankina Valley, says Madang Provincial Police Commander.
Superintendent Rubiang Mazuc has stated that police personnel have yet to get to the location of the gangs last whereabouts due to the rugged environment.
“The only way to get through to that location is via air, so we are still waiting on the Raicoast MP,” the PPC said.
He added that during the National General Elections, they were able to maintain a presence within the area with help from the NATEL forces but after that they have yet to return to address the reports of violence.
They are now waiting for the Member for Raicoast to assist them but so far, they have not yet received any assistance.
Madang Provincial Police Commander says he is yet to receive any reports from the sources inside the Nankina Valley due to network issues within the Valley.
PPC Mazuc said they only go to areas where they can access proper reception to make calls and advise the police.
“Due to the networki issue in the area, our informants only come to us when they are at any location to take our calls,” the PPC said.
He added that he has not received any reports of any deaths or casualties from the area.
He also stated that their informants also put themselves at risk when they try to report back as they also exposing themselves to the gang.
