NCD Governor Powes Parkop launched the “By Her, for Her Supported by Him” Art project at Ela Beach on Sunday.
As part of the 16-days of Activism to end violence against women in PNG and in commemorating the Human Rights Day, NCDC, Amazing Port Moresby in partnership with UNFPA was honored to have launched the new Art Project by women only artists in PNG.
“We celebrate Human Rights Day, held each year on the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year, a year fraught with so much difficulty including a devastating pandemic, we must promise to our families and communities that we will do better.
“Let us embrace human rights, each of us, and not just in our laws and declarations, but in committing ourselves to uphold them in practice in our daily interaction with those around us,” said Governor Parkop.
The United Nations Secretary-General has issued “A Call to Action for Human Rights” reaffirming “that a culture of human rights must permeate everything we do”. For them at the UNFPA, that means preventing and eliminating discrimination in all our work processes, providing quality services that meet international human rights standards, and holding ourselves accountable at all times.
Mr Parkop said that for us as individuals, it means standing up for ourselves and others because that is what defending human rights means. And when we cannot do it alone, we must do it together, and call on the people and institutions obligated to advocate for, defend and promote human rights.
Supported through the European Union – United Nations Spotlight. This Art Project is an initiative to eliminate violence against women and girls in PNG.
The project called for action on Human Rights is commemorated every year on 10th December.
