An inmate serving life year sentence who was among 18 escapees who broke out of Bomana Prison facility yesterday was recaptured late yesterday by police in the National Capital District.
The recapture of the hardened criminal at Sabusa in the Central Province now leaves 17 of the escapees still at large as Correctional Service officers and Police continue their manhunt to capture the fugitives on the run.
Correctional Service Commissioner Stephen Pokanis told this newsroom this morning that the prisoner, Saku Dove, 30 years of age from Lufa in Eastern Highlands Province was sentenced to life year two weeks ago.
He was recaptured at Sabusa in Central Province by a police operation around the area.
Pokanis has further appealed to friends and relatives of the escapees including the general public to help in the recapture of the 17 others who are still at large.
“All of them are high risk prisoners and now pose a threat in the communities,” Mr Pokanis said.
“I also appeal to the escapees themselves to surrender voluntarily through a church or community leader.”
A joint police and CS operation is currently underway.
