The people of Central Province will now proudly boast of a unique and positive platform for its’ women thanks to Governor of Central Mr. Robert Agarobe.
Mr. Agarobe was present at the APEC Haus last night for the official launch of the Miss Central Province Pageant also known as the Tiare Vavine Pageant.
The pageant is an initiative of the governor to further enhance efforts towards promoting a new direction for Central Province with emphasis on the slogan ‘Doing it the Central way’.
“Today a dream comes true for a small group of women who have a common passion and a common drive to nurture, to teach, to inspire, to groom and to empower our young Central women.”
These were the words of Mrs. Jelena Tamate Uraru, chairlady of the Miss Central Province Tiare Vavine Pageant.
Mrs. Uraru highlighted the fact that due to the loss of cultural assets as a direct result of modernization, the rite of passage has been disrupted for Central women.
“The Miss Central Province Pageant stands for reviving and preserving the lost and diminishing cultural assets of the Central People and the platform will be one unique way of bringing together women from across the five districts of the province to drive this agenda forward,” Mrs. Uraru said.
Governor Agarobe said as leader of the Central people, his government is focusing on the land and its’ people to come up with activities that will drive the economy forward for the province and the pageant is one way of achieving this.
“Our most important resources are the people and the land and so we focus on these two main resources.”
“Out of these resources, we focus a lot on agriculture, tourism and sports to drive the SMART plan for Central Province,” Mr. Agarobe said.
“Young people are the main vehicles that will drive this SMART Central plan forward and the Miss Central Province Pageant will be a great platform to market this plan and make it happen,” the governor added.
The launching saw seven young women stand up and raise their hands to represent not just their districts but the Central Province as a whole.
The young women will now engage in the pageant’s program for the next two months with the crowning set to take place in October and the winner of the title progressing on to represent Central Province at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.
The official Miss Central Province will be referred to as ‘Tiare Vavine’.
