Leader of the Opposition, Belden Norman Namah expressed disappointment but said he was not surprised at the lack of quorum in Parliament yesterday.
“Prime Minister James Marape is the champion of Parliament adjournments. I would not expect him to provide the numbers for a proper Parliament sitting,” Mr Namah said.
“I had my Opposition MPs in caucus ready to raise issues of national importance only to be told that there was lack of quorum and Parliament was adjourned.
“This is what I have been saying all along.
“This government does not respect the people’s house. It does not want its actions scrutinised by the Parliament.
“This sitting is the first sitting for the 2022 Parliamentary year, not a continuation of the 2021 year.
“The 2021 Parliament Calendar year has expired and Parliament has only sat 20 days, far short of the mandatory 63 Sitting Days Constitutional requirement.
“Yesterday’s adjournment after a six month hiatus is further evidence of this Government’s refusal to abide by the dictates of the law.”
