The Correctional Service (CS) is closely working with the Education Department’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Branch to have TVET training being run at the CS facilities throughout the country.
CS Commissioner Stephen Pokanis says in order for that to happen, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has to be signed.
“The TVET training is part of the prisoners’ rehabilitation programs that is catered for under CS Prison Industry Policy.”
“We plan to run the TVET training in consultation with technical colleges that are registered under the Education Department,” said Pokanis.
Pokanis says they are anticipating for the MoU to be signed before the year ends.
Meanwhile he says recruitment for CS officers is not yet out as they are still waiting on funds from the government.
“We have submitted our request for funds already and recruitment will only come about whenever funding is made available.”
Mr Pokanis however is advising for those interested, they can start dropping off their applications at the CS Headquarters in Port Moresby.
