The Gordons Youth Association is thankful to the NCDC Authorities for stepping in to seal the rugged roads and do maintenance work beside the Sigirap Market and the Gordons Flats.
Norman Waka from the Gordons Youth Association said after a very thorough cleanup was done, pictures were taken and posted on the association’s facebook page which prompted the NCDC to step in and show their support by sending a backhoe to seal and fix the road.
“Now the road that leads to the Daulo Crescent Street to Jade Island Supermarket is sealed and it is good to see the residence and vehicles use this road again after a very long time,” said Mr Waka.
Mr Waka added that if we make it our responsibility to stand up and do something by taking action, the Government will also do their part by providing services to match our own efforts.
“I am appealing now to all the youths in NCD and the suburbs to take the initiative and responsibility by making a change in and around their communities.”
“We are the future of this country and it is our time to make a change and the time is now,” he said.
Mr Waka said in that way, we are only setting a foundation for our younger ones to follow and in order for the city to be safe and clean, this is the way to start.
“The Government will find ways to help and provide services to assist us in any way possible.”
The Gordons Youth Association (GYA) is made up of youths mainly from the Gordons surburb who have taken the initiative to protect and clean the Gordons area.
“Gordons is a very notorious place where such activities like petty crimes and theft happen daily and there has also been an increase in the rate of criminal activities,” added Mr Waka.
“Initiatives like the GYA will now make it easier for youths to stand together and address such issues and hopefully come up with better solutions for the,” Mr Waka said.
A meeting was held which involved all the youths and elder citizens of Gordons which created the idea of the association to protect Gordons in terms of waste management and security.
Mr Norman Waka thanked NCDC for their help in supporting Gordons Youth Association and the youths who have been up early every day since the start of the association to make sure Gordons is safe for commuters.
