In what is being described as a very ambitious yet exciting goal, the New Ireland Provincial Executive Council has approved for the establishment of a Youth Marching Band to be trained and groomed in time for its first performance on Independence Day, 16th September, 2021.
The Youth Marching band comprised of 20 school aged youths from all over New Ireland will set the scene for Independence Day celebrations which will also coincide with the Grand Opening of the Multi Use Sporting Stadium at Kopkop in Kavieng town.
The band will be trained by former members of Papua New Guinea’s Royal Police Constabulary band and a technical team who have backgrounds in teaching music and Marching drills.
Consultations are already underway to help organise the formation and setting up of the Marching band.
A call out will be officially announced for any interested youths to apply for positions in the 20 member Marching.
With less than two months left to train the chosen youth representing New Ireland the trainings will be intense and require much time and dedication by all participants.
The OLSH Governors school of excellence is also very excited about the prospect and looks forward to assisting.
