Young boys and men living in and around the Gordons bus stop area have decided to come together as a team to fight against the negativity and chaos that has taken over the Gordons area especially where the main bus stop and shops are located.
On Tuesday night, long time resident of Gordons Mr Willie Yogomin organised a community meeting at his residence along Lapwing Drive to discuss prevalent law and order issues currently affecting the community.
In recent weeks, the Gordons suburb has attracted a lot of criticism from the general public.
It has been noted as a notorious area within Port Moresby with daily social problems like pick-pocketing, hold-ups and looting as being prevalent issues affecting the community as well as the travelling public.
Youth advocator Mr Klenneth Pombo, a resident at Jabiru Drive said that as boys who have grown up in the Gordons area, they are tired of the same issues affecting the community year in year out and so they have now decided to stand up and do something to help themselves and their community as a whole.
“We have grown up here in Gordons and this is our home. We are tired of our people being attacked by opportunists and so we have decided to come together to address these issues once and for all.”
“This week we have started to clean around the bus stop areas and have placed our boys at all locations around the main bus stop area to ensure that no one is loitering or carrying out any illegal activities,” Klenneth said.
The community initiative has drawn a lot of praise on social media in the first two days of its’ operation and community leader Mr Yogomin says that they are totally committed to protecting their suburb at no cost to anyone and will continue to do so until Gordons is restored to its’ former state of yester years.
Mr Pombo, who is a content creator and entrepreneur has been utilising his facebook page @PNGforREALZ to help drive awareness on the issue and has been providing daily updates on his page on the work done so far.
