Assistant Commissioner to Police (ACP) NCD/Central Anthony Wagambie Jnr said there has been marked improvement with public safety around the notorious Erima area following the constant deployment of Police during peak hours in the morning and late afternoons.
“The deployment of police is consistent and will remain consistent.”
He said his office is now working closely with the PNG China Association to have the CCTV cameras installed at certain crime hot areas within the Erima.
“My office is working towards having CCTV Cameras installed however, we will need NCDC to cooperate with us and grant certain approvals and we also need PNG Power’s assistance for the electricity.”
“We are determined to have the CCTV cameras working very soon which will be managed by the BCD Metropolitan Superintendent.”
Meanwhile youths living within the Erima area have voluntarily stepped up to assist police and watch over the area for criminal activities.
Wagambie said they are volunteers but the police are also monitoring them to make sure they do not compromise the work of the police.
