A special handover ceremony was held today at Governor Sir Julius Chan’s former office at Mogol in Kavieng town. Keys were handed over to New Ireland’s Division of Education represented by CEO of Education Apelis Benson, Chairlady of the New Ireland Education Board Dr Kappa Malpo in the Prescence of education division staff..
The change in office is a much needed boost for the Education Division after operating out of a small office at N4C for the past years.
“This office will allow for smoother processing of queries of our teachers. They will not have to stay long periods of time in town, moving from office to office just to get served,” said CEO Benson Apelis.
There are up to 2295 teachers in the province, teaching in the 600 schools throughout the length and breadth of New Ireland.
Apelis said by looking after the welfare of the province’s teachers they would reciprocate by ensuring the 60,000 plus students are also well catered for.
New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan relayed that the Education Division was one of the most important departments in the province and deserved to be allocated a bigger office space to operate out of.
“I am not giving you this office out of the kindness of my heart, I am doing it because we need an efficient Education system. We must look to the future because if we spend too much time talking about the past we forget our future,” said Sir J.
He explained that it was a temporary arrangement until a permanent New Ireland Government building is built which will accommodate all Divisions of Government and Administration.
