Apart from the established members of the National team competing in the PNG Air Athletics Grand Prix this weekend, five athletes will be travelling from Hoskins, including four promising young athletes who came to the attention of Athletics PNG last year.
Sprinter Graham Bai won an hotly contested under 18 mens final in a time of 11.05 secs and was a close second to Timothy Tuna in the 200m.
Lenia Gilis was the National Champion in the 200m U16 division. Bai will be up against Emmanuel Anis from Wewak and a trio of sprinters from NSI, Goroka. Paias Wisil , Jonathan Dende and Alphonse Igish are all now starting to show the benefits of their extended period of training in Goroka.
Danlyne Siliwen won both the 100m and 200m in the U18 Division.Young middle distance runner Dominica Kakapa is understood to be getting support from her family to attend the Grand Prix series. The fifth member of the WNB Group is experienced PNG Rep Andipas Georasi.
Coming over from Markham Valley High school will be high jumper Isaac Kambuka who placed third at the National Championships last year. Talented all rounder Edna Boafob will be taking the opportunity to try out a number of different events, including high jump , shot put , javelin and long jump.
