Papua New Guinea has recorded 182 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday June 8, increasing the total number of cases to 16,580.
The cases were reported in 12 provinces with Manus reporting the highest of 59 cases. Milne Bay reported 32 cases, Autonomous Region of Bougainville 31, Western Highlands 13, National Capital District 12, Gulf and Eastern Highlands 11 cases each, East New Britain six, West New Britain three, Hela two cases and Central and Morobe a single case each.
Of the 182 cases reported, 97 were males whilst 85 were females. Their ages range from one to 71 years. A total of 124 cases were showing symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing.
The country’s COVID-19 cases now stands at 16,580 with 164 known deaths. A total of 15,877 people have recovered from COVID-19. To date, 117,707 people have been tested for COVID-19.
All 22 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases. The distribution of the cases are as follows:

- Western Province – 2,385;
- Morobe – 1,176;
- East New Britain – 1,084;
- Western Highlands – 998;
- West New Britain – 1,000;
- Eastern Highlands – 710;
- New Ireland – 520;
- West Sepik – 445;
- AROB – 399;
- Madang – 392;
- Central – 264;
- Enga – 267;
- East Sepik – 230;
- Manus – 439;
- Simbu – 225;
- SHP – 196;
- Oro – 196;
- Jiwaka – 146;
- Milne Bay – 193;
- Hela – 115; and
- Gulf – 112.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID -19 has reached 174,366,187 including 327,669 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 3,751,825 including 7,739 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
