Papua New Guinea has recorded 47 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Saturday June 5, increasing the total number of cases to 16,374.
The cases were reported in eight provinces with Simbu reporting the highest of 24 cases. Western Highlands reported nine cases, Madang and National Capital District four each, Milne Bay three, and Morobe, Jiwaka and Hela a single case each.
Of the 47 cases reported, 26 were males whilst 21 were females. Their ages range from 13 to 76 years. A total of 36 cases were showing symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing.
To date, a total of 117,373 people have been tested for COVID-19, with 16,374 testing positive for COVID-19 including 164 known deaths. A total of 15,659 recoveries have been recorded, with 551 cases active within the last 21-day period.
All 22 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 173,311,814 including 416,751 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 3,727,190 including 10,239 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
