The Adventist Tertiary Students Association (ATSA) opened the University of Papua New Guinea’s 4th Commemoration for Sir Michael Somare, this evening 26th February 2025, at UPNG Port Moresby.
UPNG marked the 4th commemoration of the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare with a solemn and patriotic ceremony held at the UPNG Forum Square, and opened by 24 ASA members who led the national anthem and a flag-raising ceremony.
The ceremony began with an opening prayer by TSCF representative Mr. Lawson Peter Sim, setting a reverent tone for the occasion.
The Adventist students then took center stage, showcasing national pride through a short parade and singing of the national anthem, including a leg-racing activity, highlighting the unity and respect that students hold for the country’s founding father.
The event served as a moment of reflection and remembrance for the legacy of Sir Michael Somare, who played a crucial role in Papua New Guinea’s independence.
It was a day to honor his contributions and reinforce national identity among students and attendees.
The UPNG community continues to uphold his memory through such commemorations, ensuring that his vision and leadership remain an inspiration for future generations.
